The Incredible Hulk is a 2008 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character the Hulk. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Universal Pictures, it is the second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was directed by Louis Leterrier from a screenplay by Zak Penn, and stars Edward Norton as Bruce Banner alongside Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell, and William Hurt. In the film, Bruce Banner becomes the Hulk as an unwitting pawn in a military scheme to reinvigorate the “Super-Soldier” program through gamma radiation. Banner goes on the run from the military while attempting to cure himself of the Hulk.

I’m going to keep this review short and simple. This is becasue I have very little to say about this film, maybe because I’ve only ever watched it twice, or because it is a very underwhelming film.

This film is ok, it follows a pretty MCU plot, it’s got some good bits of action. The shots and cinematography are good, and I like the score. I also think that the CGI for the time is decent. I also like the final fight scene, it’s great to see two tanks go at it. These are the things that I consider positives about this film, now onto the negatives.

I don’t think that Edward Norton was the right choice to play Bruce Banner/Hulk. He is really weird in this movie, now I know that Bruce Banner is meant to be a bit off, Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner is a bit of a creep. He just sort of has this off putting gaze throughout the film, I don’t think Marvel fully knew what they wanted Bruce Banner to be. I think that the antagonist ‘Abomination’ isn’t very good. Tim Roth even struggles to do anything with this role, which is saying something. He’s not bad but not good, just a stereotypical MCU villain.

When the credits rolled to this film, I sort of was like ‘eh’, the film kind of just flew past, not really in a good way. These are signs that it’s just an ‘ok’ film.

Overall, this film is sort of the outcast of the MCU, it rarely gets talked about, and this is kind of its own fault. How I sum it up is; it’s inoffensive. It’s not good but it’s not bad either. Watch it if you love the Hulk, if not then you’re not really missing out on much.
