The Christmas Chronicles 2 is a 2020 American Christmas comedy film , a sequel to the 2018 film The Christmas Chronicles and is set 2 years after the original.

Kate (Camp) and Teddy (Lewis) are spending Christmas in Cancun, Mexico along with their mother Claire (Williams-Paisley), new boyfriend Bob (Gibson) and Bob’s timid son Jack (Bruno).

Kate is unhappy at being away from home at Christmas and decides to run away and get an early flight back to Boston. She catches a shuttle to the airport which Jack sneaks onto.

Unbeknownst to either of them, the shuttle is being driven by Belsnickel (Dennison), one of Santa’s elves who turned human and is now a rival of Santa’s. He uses a device he built to transport them to the North Pole where Santa (Russell) finds them and takes them back to his village. This was all part of Belsnickel’s plan to re-enter Santa’s village.

Belsnickel attempts to destroy Santa’s village by stealing the Star of Bethlehem, a magical artefact that stops time in and provides power to the village. He also releases a potion into the village that causes the elves to go insane.

When Santa and Belsnickel fight over the Star of Bethlehem, it is destroyed.

It’s now up to Kate and Jack to help Santa and Mrs Claus (Hawn) once again save Christmas.

In the end, Kate learns that it’s not where you celebrate Christmas it’s about the people you are with.

And Jack learns that courage was inside him all the time after he helps Mrs Claus heal the Elves by going on a quest to collect a rare plant that only grows in a single mountainous area of the Pole.

As sequels go, this isn’t great and I am sure will be largely forgettable.

It’s not that it’s a bad film, I just found the story to be rather contrived and I thought that it just tried too hard, and descends into the usual over sentimentality.

Overall I doubt The Christmas Chronicles 2 will become a Christmas staple.
