Seven is a 1995 American neo-noir psychological crime thriller film directed by David Fincher and written by Andrew Kevin Walker. The film tells the story of David Mills (Pitt), a detective who partners with the retiring William Somerset (Freeman) to track down a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as a motive in his murders.

Seven has to be one of my most watched films of all time, this is because I love it. Even though I have watched it many times, it still puts me at the very edge of my seat. This is largely due to the amazing writing. It is paced well, and the characters, and how they react to things, is genuinely fascinating.

I love the unique plot of this film. It isn’t all that unique in the cop movie sense (it’s much more than that), it’s unique because it uses the seven deadly sins as the killers motive. This turns it from a run of the mill crime film, into an absolute roller coaster of a viewing experience.

One of the main things I love about this film is the characters. Morgan Freeman (Somerset) and Brad Pitt (Mills) have so much chemistry on screen. They accompany eachother perfectly; they almost bounce of one another. They both show the best of their acting abilities in this film. I love the dreary ‘big city’ setting to this film.

Ok, I know I’m going to mention him, but can we just focus on the film… Kevin Spacey puts in an amazing performance as the killer; John Doe. He is plain and simply evil, it’s as if Kevin Spacey really is the character he’s portraying. I love his dialogue, and the way he delivers it. It really is chilling, and is one of the best aspects to this film.

Overall, I love this film, It’s got an amazing third act, but I highly recommend you go and watch it for yourselves. I don’t want to be the person that spoils this brilliant film for you. Certainly one of David Finchers best.
