Interstellar is a 2014 British-American epic science fiction film directed and produced by Christopher Nolan. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, and Matt Damon. Set in a dystopian future where humanity is struggling to survive, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for mankind.
In my opinion, Christopher Nolan is the greatest director of the 21st century and one of the best of all the time. The English director has given us films such as: Memento, Insomnia, The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Prestige and Inception. These are some of the best action thrillers ever made.
Interstellar is a monumental viewing experience. Literally as I was watching it, I knew I was watching something legendary. Starring Matthew McConaughey right slap bang in the middle of the McConaissance, featuring roles from Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow, Michael Caine and Matt Damon.
The visuals are out of this world (sorry). It’s very 2001: A Space Odysseyesque with long visual scenes with no dialogue, Just music. You can see why Interstellar won the best visual effects oscar.
Now onto one of the backbones of this film, the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer goes all out on this one. During these long visual scenes without dialogue, his score rips through the screen. It almost talks to us and tells us what’s happening. I actually think the use of dialogue during these scenes would be a massive downgrade. Easily one of his best scores to date; and that’s saying something with the resume he has.
If you want action, thrills, twists and emotion in it’s purest form; then Interstellar is definitely the film for you.
