Fight Club is a 1999 American film directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter. It is based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk. Norton plays the unnamed narrator, who is discontented with his white-collar job. He forms a “fight club” with soap salesman Tyler Durden (Pitt), and becomes embroiled in a relationship with a destitute woman, Marla Singer (Bonham Carter).
When I first watched Fight Club, to say that I was completely blown away; it would be a massive understatement. This is certainly a generational film and it is easily one of the greatest of its kind.
The writing and direction in this film is pristine, this is a common occurance with a David Fincher film. I love the way how he paced this film, and the way in which he sections the film, no one does this better than him.
The cast of this film is amazing, Pitt, Norton and Carter are all brilliant, and they make this film what it is. This film is unique, in the fact that Norton narrates throughout the film. He accomponies us, and it’s almost like he’s sat next to us watching the film, as are we. I love the story ark of in particular, Edward Norton, it’s a slow and gradual ark in which we see him develop into the character he will eventually be at the end of the film. I think that Brad Pitt is the perfect supporting actor, he brings something only Brad Pitt can bring to a film. It’s certainly a different film after he first appears.
I LOVE the story of this film, I’m not going to give it away, I want you to experience it yourself. It is so well written and it is genuinely fascinating, it certainly gets you hooked. Never at one point during this film, did I get bored, or feel that it was dragging. It was truly 2 and a half hours of pure and utter filmmaking genius.
This film certainly takes us on an adventure, it takes it down different alleys and I am completely here for it. This film is not the same film at the end-as it was at the beginning. It fully is a roller-coaster of a film, a huge one in fact. There literally isn’t a film like this.
This film has no negatives in my opinion, I loved everything about this film and I urge that everybody go watch it.
